Who We Are

Women’s Voices for Africa in the UK (WV4A) is a non profit organisation, which was born out of the need to provide a voice for minorities. We work with women across the UK, Portugal, France, Poland, Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique and Nigeria, in particular, as well as having a presence in most other African countries and around the globe. WV4A provides gateway services for women, including:

•Being a voice for people living with Albinism, by creating awareness of their plight and advocating for social and economic inclusion

•Promoting and supporting SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and charities

•Serving those in need during times of crisis Natural Disasters

•Promoting and supporting education across the world Girls Back to School’s project

•Climate change and sustainability, which is a cross cutting priority in all we do

•Diversity and inclusion through entertainment, gastronomy, art and crafts, fashion, sports, music and culture.

Our Pillars

We believe in the power of collective action to bring about positive change. Our organisation stands for strong pillars, each representing a vital aspect of our mission: Education, Leadership, Networking, and Health. Together, these pillars form the foundation of our commitment to making the World a better place.

Leadership

True leadership goes beyond titles; it’s about inspiring, guiding and serving others. We foster leadership skills that empower individuals to become changemakers in their communities. We believe that everyone has the potential to lead and make a positive impact, as well as having the potential to develop the skills to bring out the best in others. Leadership and learning are interdependent. Embrace and act!

Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
Nelson Mandela – “Education is the mother of leadership.”
Wendell Wilkie
Education is the key to transformational change in woman’s lives. WV4A aims to empower the most women and the next generation by backing the project Girls Back to School.

Networking

Connection and collaboration are at the heart of what we do. We provide a platform for individuals and organizations to come together, share ideas and work towards common goals. Our extensive network is a valuable resource for building partnerships, sharing knowledge, and creating lasting change.

Health

Nine out of ten people living with Albinism in Africa die before they reach 40 years old. This much-misunderstood condition leaves individuals without the pigment their skin needs to protect them from the strong African sun. In some countries, those who live with this genetic condition face prejudice.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

“As a woman, closing the gender gap in mechanical engineering has been my dream. Women make up 49.5 percent of MIT’s undergraduates in mechanical engineering, due to department’s proactive approach. However, meeting WV4A where I was approached to be a speaker for the Bridging Diversity with Technology and Innovation conference organized by WV4A in 2022, made me realise what a difference I make. Ladies we need you and join us for this transformational journey!”

Associate Trustee

“Being part of Women’s Voices for Africa will utilise my range of experience as a professional woman to tackle cancer together. The beauty of WV4A is a range of women with a different background and the same purpose. Empower women!
Join us for a transformational change. Together we can make a difference”

SMEs are vital to the global economy including the UK, where the government has introduced new measures to help protect and sustain small businesses post-Brexit. Working law gave me wide expertise on how to deal with diaspora communities to support them from a legal standpoint to ensure that the organizations are respecting the law. It is a pleasure to support WV4A as a legal advisor. Born in Angola

Dr Yvonne Walburga Joko-Fru

“I joined wv4a in 2018 at very young age. I saw my mother putting ideas together and having a passion for supporting children in Mozambique. Each time we went for a holiday we had to visit primary schools and give them clothes, food, pencils and pens. I realized then that there are kids in Mozambique with so very little, so I wanted to help them at any cost.
In 2021 I managed to get my job at Cambridge University’s Churchill College thanks to my volunteer work. I am continuously learning how to make a difference as a champion.”
